What to Expect
This exclusive 6-day tour takes you from the august city of Hanoi, complete with stately French colonial buildings and a vibrant old Vietnamese quarter, to the natural wonderland of the Ba Bể National Park. You will kayak on the lake, visit Ban Gioc waterfall – the world’s4th largest border waterfall – and trek through remote ethnic Tay villages.
Day 1: Hanoi – Ba Bể Lake
You will be picked up in the early morning by an ODV Travel representative for the journey to the Bac Can province, a rugged and deeply forested area that boasts some of the highest altitudes in Vietnam.
On the way you will visit the Minority Museum to learn more about the Vietnamese ethnic groups, and then continue to Cho Ra for an overnight stay.Here you will also have some free time at leisure to enjoy the peace of this remote region of rice paddies and tea plantations.
Day 2: Ba Bể – Pac Ngoi (Kayaking, Trekking)
After breakfast, you will be taken by bus to Ba Bể Lake to kayak along the Nang River, while enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. You will get time to visit the caves of Puong Grotto, the rapids of the Dau Dang Waterfall and tiny Widow Island. You will also visit the stilt houses of the Tay community in Pac Ngoi Village, where you will spend the night at a hotel.
Day 3: Ba Be – Cao Bang (Cycling)
After breakfast, you will cycle for approximately 90 minutes to visit Tay and Nung minority villages and explore the daily lives of these northeast Vietnamese ethnic minority groups. You will be transferred to Cao Bang in the afternoon for some time at leisure and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc
This morning you will visit Ban Gioc Waterfall by car. On the way you will stop at Phuc Sen Village to meet a community of Nung people in a small village that is famous for producing farming tools. Transfer to Ban Gioc Waterfall for lunch and a visit to the Nguom Ngao Cave before returning to Cao Bang for a second night.
Day 5: Cao Bang – Lang Son – Halong
Today you will visit Lang Son, Vietnam’s gateway to China and an ancient citadel that played an important and strategic role in the Sino-French War. On the way to Lang Son, visit remote minority villages to take souvenir photos and enjoy some of Vietnam’s most spectacular and ageless scenery.
Arrive in Lang Son and visit the Tam Thanh Cave and Nhi Thanh Cave, hewn in to the limestone hills. Lunch will be in a local restaurant, followed by a drive to Halong City where you will check in to your hotel and have some time at leisure.
Day 6: Halong – Hanoi
Halong is the tourist jewel in northeast Vietnam’s crown, a surreal landscape of limestone peaks eerily emerging from the waters of the bay. Early in the morning you will board a wooden boat for a 6-hour cruise of Halong Bay and to visit some magical caves. There will be time to relax and soak up the brooding mountains and limpid beauty of the region.
You will visit Sung Sot Cave, Titop Beach, quaint fishing villages and more as you cruise, with time to kayak and swim if you wish. You will have lunch on board the boat, before and afternoon drive back to Hanoi.
Along the way you will pause to visit Dong Trieu, known for its production of ceramics and pottery. Buy some unique souvenirs of your expedition before returning to Hanoi for your hotel drop-off.
